The holiday season is all about parties and fun activities! Whether you’re hosting the biggest Christmas bash in town or just looking to spend time with family and tackle some holiday projects, this post is here to help you get ready for the season and create a cozy, welcoming home.
Paint Touch-Ups
It’s incredible how quickly the paint in your home can become scuffed, stained, or chipped over time. Even a few paint touch-ups in problem areas can significantly enhance the visual appeal of a space, allowing you to focus on other design elements.
Alternatively, you could opt for a complete interior repaint, which may require some serious work but could be worth the positive reaction it garners from relatives and party guests.
Repair Window Seals
During the chilly winter months, it can be challenging to completely eliminate drafts and cold air seeping in from the outside. However, you can take proactive steps by inspecting your windows and window seals to ensure they can withstand the winter winds.
Check for any cracks or discoloration around the windows and ensure they open and close properly. If the windows are too worn out, it may be necessary to replace them before the holiday season. Identifying drafts and taking action to prevent them is crucial to avoid overworking your heating system.
Check Exterior Lights
It’s super important to make sure all your outside lights are working great! Whether it’s Santa, the UPS guy, or just your best friend, you want your guests to have a clear view as they come to the door.
Double-check that all the lightbulbs are shining and that the outside lights aren’t broken. If your front yard isn’t bright enough to guide people to the street, maybe you could add some solar walkway lights. Also, keep an eye on those holiday lights and decorations that might use up power from your safety lights or need to be turned off when you’re using them.
Prepare the Kitchen
The kitchen will probably be the heart of holiday cooking, so let’s make sure it’s spotless and all the gadgets are in tip-top shape.
Start by giving the big appliances like the stove a good look, making sure all the burners are working and the oven is sparkling clean.
Also, now’s a great time to tidy up the fridge and clear some space for all the goodies you’ll be storing before and after the holiday feasts. Another appliance that could use a quick check and clean is the dishwasher. Give it a self-cleaning cycle and make sure the drains are clear of any gunk.
